VC backed Boston area companies

Optaros Inc., a company that designs, automates and implements open-source applications for enterprises, has raised a $12 million Series C round from inside investors.

Aspen Aerogels, a Northborough, Mass.-based nanotech company focused on insulation materials, has raised $37 million in fourth-round funding, according to VentureWire. Arcapita Ventures led the round, and was joined by return backers Lehman Brothers Venture Partners Reservoir Capital Group and RockPort Capital Partners. Optaros Inc., a Boston-based provider of enterprise consulting and systems integration services, has raised $12 million in Series C funding, according to a regulatory filing. 406 Ventures was joined by return backers Globespan Capital Partners, Charles River Ventures and General Catalyst Partners. JazzD Markets Inc., a Brookline, Mass.-based online directory startup, has raised $8 million in Series A funding, according to a regulatory filing. Backers include Commonwealth Capital Ventures and Pilot House Ventures. The company is run by former Aberdeen Group CEO James Bedard.

DemandWare Inc. has won an auction for the assets of N2N Commerce, a Cambridge , Mass-based maker of on-demand commerce management software for multichannel retailers. No financial terms were disclosed. DemandWare has raised around $44 million in VC funding from General Catalyst Partners, North Bridge Venture Partners and T-Venture Holding. N2N had raised $30 million in January 2007 from General Catalyst and Limited Brands, but ceased operations just one year later. www.demandware.com

Turbine Inc., a Westwood, Mass.–based MMO game publisher, today confirmed that it has raised $40 million in Series C funding. peHUB first reported the news in April. Granite Global Ventures and Time Warner co-led the round, and were joined by return backers Highland Capital Partners, Polaris Venture Partners, Tudor Ventures and Columbia Capital.
