Mascoma Corp., a Cambridge, Mass.-based provider of cellulosic biomass-to-ethanol development and production, has raised $50 million in Series C funding, according to a regulatory filing. It includes $30 million in equity, and $20 million in debt. General Catalyst Partners was joined by return backers Khosla Ventures, Atlas Venture, Flagship Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, Pinnacle Ventures and VantagePoint Venture Partners. Proficiency Inc., a Marlborough, Mass.-based provider of OEM and supplier product data integration, has raised $4.25 million in new VC funding. Catalyst Investment led the round, and was joined by return backers Carmel Ventures and Pitango Venture Capital. Backers include Jack Connors, founder of Hill Holiday; Peter Lynch of Fidelity Investments, Cluck Clough, former chief investment strategist for Merrill Lynch; and Tom McDonnel, CEO of DST Systems.
